Update on Funds Raised for Spay/Neuter Surgeries
Dear Volunteers, Adopters, Supporters and Cheerleaders,
Allow me to update you on the state of our community spay/neuter efforts. As of 11/7/2024, FOMAS has spent a total of $12,870.59 for our Mountainair spay/neuter project. To summarize the expenses: to buy cat traps for the feral cats ($506.07); to spay/neuter and release 23 feral cats, $550.00; and the remaining funds ($11,814.52) to spay or neuter 27 community cats and 56 dogs. In total, that is an amazing 106 animals! Please give yourselves a big THANK YOU for this resounding success.
While we still have several animals on the list to be scheduled, and we will honor those commitments, we are completely out of the money we raised ($11,700) for this program.
We hope to reapply for the original state grant, but they are still making their way through the rules they will use to both evaluate applications and award money. We are also looking elsewhere for grants for spay/neuter programs and remain hopeful we can find support.
The hard truth is that in the end, we will likely be asking you once again for any help you can give us, with donations, sharing our plea with other folks you may know, and encouraging everyone you know to get their pets spayed and neutered.
We appreciate you all so much for your many contributions of time, energy, and the funds we need to operate. We simply could not do it without you.
With gratitude,
Jill Mulder and the FOMAS Board
