Every dog that comes through the doors of the Mountainair Animal Shelter receives more individualized attention than at other, larger shelters. We do not euthanize at our shelter, so if a dog comes in with serious behavioral or medical issues, we do everything in our capacity to address those needs, AND we have been 97% successful in these efforts, placing those dogs in permanent homes.
Success Story
Meet Gia!
Gia is a beautiful pit bull who came to us through Dogs Playing For Life in Florida through their transfer program. She is almost two years old, spayed, house trained, and wiggly cute! She is currently doing beautifully in her foster home with Chuck and Bev. She does well with dogs the same size or larger than her. She also has been trained to SIT when cars approach. Aside from eating bananas and sunbathing, her favorite activity is tug-of-war.
Why Fomas?
Our Mission
The Friends of the Mountainair Animal Shelter (FoMAS) is a 501c3 nonprofit dedicated to improving the quality of life of all dogs who come to our shelter. Our mission strives to ensure that all dogs rescued by the Mountainair Animal Shelter receive the highest quality of care and are matched with the right families who welcome these dogs into their homes. We also provide the Mountainair community and surrounding areas with resources and information regarding animal welfare.
